HHA Job Description

Job Summary:
The Home Health Aide will assist the elderly, Pediatric patients, or persons with disabilities with daily living activities in the patient’s home. Duties performed may include keeping house (making beds, doing laundry, washing dishes) and preparing meals. In addition the Home Health Aide assists patient’s with Personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming and home exercises.


Environment:
Work may also be performed primarily indoors in a patient’s home, throughout all areas, walking on uneven surfaces, wet sidewalks, and on carpeted and/or tiled floors.  Work will be performed there routinely around other co-workers, patient’s, and guests.  Due to the nature of the business, worker may be exposed to occasional slippery floors, object on floors, chemicals, sharp objects, hazardous materials and waste (including human), blood­ borne pathogens, and communicable diseases, as well as high-stress medical and/or life-threatening situations.

 Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Administers bedside and personal care such as ambulation and personal hygiene assistance. Prepares and maintains records of client progress and services performed, reporting changes in client condition to manager or supervisor.
  2. Performs housekeeping duties such as cooking, cleaning, washing clothes and dishes, and running errands. Cares for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, family disruption, and convalescence; providing companionship, personal care, and help in adjusting to new lifestyles.
  3. Performs health care-related tasks such as monitoring vital signs and medication under the direction of registered nurses or physiotherapists.
  4. Plans, shops for, and prepares nutritious meals, and assists families in planning, shopping for, or preparing nutritious meals.
  5. Transports clients to locations outside the home such as to physicians’ offices or on outings, using a motor vehicle.
  6. Trains family members to provide bedside care.
  7. Providing basic personal care, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  8. Instructs or advises clients on issues such as household cleanliness, utilities, hygiene, nutrition, or infant care.
  9. Participates in case reviews, consulting with the team caring for the client, to evaluate the client’s needs and plan for continuing services
Required Skills/Abilities: 
  1. Must have an empathetic attitude toward the sick, elderly, handicapped, terminal, dependent or disabled patient in the home setting.
  2. Basic understanding of medical terminology.
Hire Requirements: 
  1. Must have a negative TB test within the past 6 months
  2. Must be fully vaccinated against COVID 19
  3. Must produce a clear state background check
  4. Must undergo a FBI Fingerprint check
  5. Must submit a clear child abuse screening
  6. Must Pass an initial competency exam
Physical Requirements
  1. Prolonged periods of standing, bending and lifting.
  2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
